Growth for industrial lubricants are expected to remain stable

According to the Opportunities in Lubricants: North American Market Analysis (Industrial Oils and Fluids) report by global market research and management consulting firm Kline, overall U.S. consumption of industrial oils and fluids is an estimated 1,200-1,300 million gal with process oil as the leading product category, accounting for slightly less than half of the market.Continue reading

Global Lubricant Additives: Market Analysis and Opportunities

Lubricant Additives Market Outpaces the Overall Lubricant Growth, which Varies by Additive Function

Global lubricant additive consumption exhibited moderate growth in 2015, estimated to have increased by 1.0% over 2014. This consumption is forecast to increase by 1.6% through 2019, with strong growth stemming from regions like Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Middle East, and South America, according to the recently published Global Lubricant Additives: Market Analysis and Opportunities report by global market research and management consulting firm Kline.

The growth rate for lubricant additives is higher than the growth rate for finished lubricants. Growth varies significantly across function class. For instance, the focus on long-lasting engine oils, engine cleanliness, and fuel economy drives an increase in the usage of dispersants, antioxidants, and friction modifiers. Greater use of multigrade engine oils drives the usage of viscosity index improvers. In contrast, due to issues of compatibility with emission control devices, the use of detergents and antiwear additives is dampened.Continue reading

General Industrial Oils and Grease

General Industrial Oils: Mineral Products to Continue Dominance; Synthetics to Lead Growth

The current global demand for general industrial oils (GIO) stands at approximately 6,500 kilotonnes and is projected to exhibit moderate growth over the course of the next five years. With over 50% share in the global consumption, hydraulic fluids are the most consumed GIOs by a wide margin. The share of different GIOs and grease are almost similar across all regions, with some variation in share of individual products. Hydraulic fluids are the most commonly consumed GIO in all regions, followed by gear oils and turbine and circulating oils.Continue reading

Industrial oils and fluids dominate Indian lubricant consumption

Overall lubricant consumption in India was valued at approximately USD 2,762 million in 2009. Of this, industrial oils and fluids make up just over half of total consumption. Commercial automotive lubricants are the second most demanded category, followed by consumer automotive lubricants which make up the smallest part of the market, accounting for only 10% of total consumption.
