The hair tools and appliances market has finally been bitten by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) bug.
The hair–dryers market, which had begun to stagnate, has always grappled in terms of innovation, with marketers only being able to offer minor innovations revolving around small tweaks to technology and design features. But Dyson’s entry into the market in 2016 with the Supersonic Hair Dryer was a major turning point for the hair–dryers category, with other competitors sitting up to gauge how such a premium device gained considerable market share in such a short time span.
Following the rising consumer appetite for expensive hair tools and appliances, marketers have been more experimental with their product offerings, introducing cordless and compact hair dryers and those that are being developed with AI. Cordless dryers are being touted as products of convenience for on-the-go individuals as well as professionals, and the new AI-based hair dryers are being considered a step in the right direction to reinvigorate the hair-dryers category.
In July 2020, Tineco joined Dyson in the ranks of vacuum cleaner brands competing in the hair tools and appliances market. Tineco, a leading company in intelligent technology for home appliances, entered the hair tools and appliances market with the first–ever smart hair dryer, Moda One. It’s equipped with smart sensors that detect hair moisture levels and automatically adjust the heat and air speed for a smart hair drying experience.
Another major launch in 2020 has been the AER Dryer, touted as the biggest leap in hair–dryer technology with the tagline “Light Years Ahead of Other Dryers.” The AER dryer is a cordless dryer that is developed on the patented SmartDry AI Tech, which controls heat output and fan speed; it also has a built-in ionizer to draw ions from the body to negate the static charge from the hair. Moreover, smartphone connectivity allows for firmware updates and for consumers to personalize their options.
