The professional air care market has posted a compound average annual growth of 3.0% from 2013 to 2017, according to Kline’s Janitorial and Housekeeping Cleaning Products and Foodservice Cleaning Products studies, published in 2017. These products contributed over $400 million to the industrial and institutional cleaning industry in 2017.
Commercial end users use aerosol, liquid, solid, and gel forms of air care products. Facilities use formulated air fresheners, deodorizers, and odor counteractants to eliminate or mask malodors and leave a fresh and fragrant atmosphere. Air fresheners are sprayed manually. Deodorizers are blocks or cakes placed in toilets and urinals to mask odors. Odor counteractants are gels, aerosols, or liquids that work in specific areas to neutralize malodors. Aerosol odor control products are the most frequently used form, with about half the market reporting use of this form. Building service contractors, retailers, nursing homes, and lodging establishments are the largest end users of these products. The leading brands include Lysol, Febreze, Ecolab, Diversey, Odoban, Clorox, Glade, Airwick, Big D, and Zep.
