Halloween Nails

Creepy Colors, Haunted Hues, Devilish Designs…You Guessed It: It’s Halloween Time!

Fall is by far one of the best times of the year when it comes to nails, trying new polish colors and even nail designs. With Halloween just a few days away, what better way to get into the spirit than by stepping up your nail game? From autumnal shades of gray, brown, and green to darker, chilly tones with funky painted pumpkins, spooky ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, and, of course, spider webs, Halloween nail art is creative, fun, and never boring.

As expected, most professional nail care manufacturers are introducing new, special Halloween collections, surprising us with unique colors and glitter finishes, and this year is no exception.

OPI, the market leader of the professional nail care market, launched a four piece nail lacquer collection this year inspired by America’s beloved and popular Halloween animated series “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and  the famous comic strip Peanuts. The limited edition features two cream-based polishes—“Good Grief!”, a sunny polish with a slight hint of yellow shimmer and “Who Are You Calling Bossy?!?”, a glossy, dark black—along with two glitter options: “Where’s My Blanket???”, a black, orange, and yellow glitter in a clear base and “To Be or Not To Beagle,” a black, red, blue, yellow, and orange glitter in a clear base. The shades are available in a normal pack size or mini pack, which also includes 10 nail decals.

Drawing upon the creepy zombie theme, China Glaze introduces five new shades for its collection Apocalypse of Color: “Rest in Pieces,” “Getting to Gnaw You,” “I Love Your Guts,” “Don’t Let the Dead Bite,” and “But Of Corpse.” Characterized by a special nail lacquer formula that is long-lasting, chip-resistant, and shine-fading, the collection combines five distinct colors: metallic green with black micro glitter, nude-pink with red glitter, black base with orange micro glitter, metallic red with micro black glitter, and festive gold and glitter in a clear base. Along with the new collection, China Glaze is also promoting “Ghoulish Glow,” a glow-in-the-dark top coat that is re-released every Halloween.

Just as in previous years, Orly reported about featuring its usual Halloween trio lacquer collection consisting of a black cream, black shimmer, and neon orange. Similar to Orly, Morgan Taylor, a newer professional nail care brand owned by Hand & Nail Harmony, releases a more classic and simple collection comprised of two shades and a top coat. The box set features “Little Black Dress,” a dark black cream “Orange Crush,”a bright, punchy orange cream, and “Make It Last,” a long-lasting top coat.

Although limited edition professional nail care products with Halloween themes are almost exclusively limited to nail polishes, gels is still the fastest growing category in the market, and one very much in demand among nail salons’ clients. The category is promoted by nail technicians offering gel-based Halloween nail designs and art. For example, gels category leader CND has its Facebook page filled with Halloween nails done with its Shellac gel polish.
