Cushion compacts, a Korean-inspired skin care-infused foundation, brought to the United States in 2015 by AmorePacific, are having another moment in 2018. According to Kline’s digital tracking service Amalgam, the compacts with foundation-soaked sponges are gaining in popularity, as 18 cushion compacts rank among the foundation category’s top 600 products in March 2018, compared with 12 cushion compacts ranked among the category’s top 600 products in December 2017.
In fact, Missha M. Magic Cushion SPF50+/PA+++ is the third best-selling product in the foundation category in March 2018. The product moves up 34 spots to become the highest ranked cushion compact we have seen to date, as more on-the-go consumers take note of the nifty travel-sized product. Even more notable is that the Missha M. Magic Cushion is sold only on Amazon.
In 2018, Amalgam captures several new cushion compact additions to the top 600 foundation products. Dior’s Capture Totale Dreamskin – Perfect Skin Cushion Broad Spectrum SPRF 50 Refill, launched in 2016, becomes the 406th best-selling foundation in January 2018. Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclat Cushion Foundation, released in 2017, becomes the 451st best-selling foundation in February 2018. Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation, launched in 2017, and PUR Air Perfection CC Cushion Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 50, released in 2015, become the 126th and 401st best-selling products in March 2018, respectively. These products’ debut and consistency on Amalgam through March 2018 is expected to grow the category for cushion compacts online.
