We have just completed fieldwork on our detailed survey of 500 cleaning professionals regarding their laundry operations and have uncovered several interesting trends about their priorities.

Sustainability is front and center for laundry end users.  When asked about eco-friendly/waterless detergents, 41% indicate they are already using these products, while 33% say they use them occasionally and 24% would consider using them in the future.  Nearly half, 47% of our respondents indicate a willingness to pay more for green/eco-friendly laundry products.  When asked about a timeline for adding green products to their operation, 72% said this will be a requirement over the next 1-2 years for their business.  Automation, green cleaning, and cold-water washing were deemed important emerging trends for about half the sample.

Suppliers of laundry chemicals are innovating and offering products that meet these evolving end-user needs. For example, Church & Dwight’s Arm & Hammer Power Sheets are concentrated detergents in the form of dissolving sheets that significantly reduce plastic waste from packaging compared to liquid detergents.  Procter & Gamble’s Tide Professional Cold-Water Detergent is formulated with pH neutral enzymatic technology to clean fabrics using cold water temperatures saving energy and water used from laundry operations.  Renegade Laundry’s NanoX laundry detergent is biodegradable and offers the ability to keep fabrics and linens clean while reducing environmental impact by breaking down naturally.

In terms of IoT-enabled automation, Hydro Systems offers laundry professionals its Hydro Connect software that provides users with crucial information to keep laundry operations running efficiently such as the number of loads, volume of chemicals and water used, and alerts on any maintenance needs or abnormal conditions detected.

Included in our sample are decision makers at commercial laundries, small- and large on-premise laundries, extended care facilities, hospitals, hotels, prisons, laundromats, shirt laundries, and dry cleaners.
