From established luxury players, like Archipelago, Illume, Nest Fragrances, Paddywax, and Voluspa, to small, niche players, like Gibson & Dehn and Kobo Candles, these home fragrance marketers showcase their latest creations last week at the NY NOW Gift Show.
Sophisticated fragrances and unique product designs have helped these luxury players record double-digit gains in recent years, according to Kline’s Home Fragrances: U.S. Market Analysis and Opportunities, and we expect to discover similar growth for these brands as we complete our research for 2017. As these home fragrance specialists refresh their lines for the spring, it appears that product newness and trends continue to revolve around inspiring new scents, collections, and artistic vessel designs. Some highlights of what we saw on the exhibition floor are summarized below.
Coconut, rose, and sea salt. New products on display indicate that the spotlight notes for this spring include soft tropical scents and variations of rose. Voluspa makes a statement with the debut of its new Roses collection, featuring five different rose scents in three candle sizes complimented by a body lotion and wash, and Archipelago and Chesapeake Bay Candle also exhibit their new rose scented candles. There is also a theme of coconut and sea salt, individually and collectively, as Paddywax introduces candles in Rosewater & Coconut, Sea Salt & Plumeria, and Cactus Flower + Coconut, Illume unveils its Fresh Sea Salt scent, and Chesapeake Bay Candle adds a Sea Salt Coconut fragrance.
Wellness, nature, and minimalism. Continued interest from consumers in using fragrances to improve one’s sense of well-being and heighten the mood inspires home fragrance marketers to create products in line with this movement. Archipelago debuts 100% Organic Essential Oils called Focus, Invigorate, Relax, and Breathe, and Paddywax celebrates elements of the world with the introduction of translucent glass candles with wooden sphere lids under the product names of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Chesapeake Bay Candle debuts its Mind & Body Serenity candle collection inspired by self-care and mindfulness, and niche brand Brooklyn Candle Studio showcases Minimalist, a collection of its 12 best-selling candle scents in fresh, timeless packaging with modern, minimalist labels.
Porcelain. The brand Chando, inspired by oriental home fragrance philosophy with patented Aroma Porcelain technology, expands its porcelain offerings, debuting its Blooming Love collection with succulent plant designs. After experiencing high demand for its Grand Casablanca Porcelain Diffuser, Zodax adds mini porcelain diffusers to its portfolio. Illume also launches a limited-edition candle line with a porcelain flower decoration on top of the candle vessel, and Paddywax debuts its new Confetti collection featuring four hand-painted porcelain candle vessels in two tapered sizes.
Some other noteworthy debuts include Voluspa’s new Sweet Treats collection illuminated in pastel colors and Nest Fragrances’ new spring collection in Linen. Nest Fragrances also showcases its newest format, the 47.3 oz. Luxury Candle with a burn time of 120 hours and the 17.6 fl oz. Luxury Reed Diffuser.
