Sustainability took center stage at this year’s ISSA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, which buzzed with activity as the trade association celebrated its 100th anniversary. Several innovation awards were given to products that contribute to minimizing waste, reducing plastic, or cutting down on chemicals.
- GP PRO’s Compact Quad Plus 4-Roll toilet paper dispenser won “Innovation of the Year” for its maximum waste reduction design.
- Pathogen Focus’ Pathogen Focus Air/Surface Disinfection Biosecurity was an honoree as it offers chemical-free organic technology that protects people and processes.
- ABCO Products Corporation’s Natura Yarn won the Environment & Sustainability award for the first and only line of Green Seal-certified wet and dry mopping products.
On top of that, other innovations were recognized for their commitment to sustainability. Soap 2O’s Super Hydro Pod foaming hand soap stands out for its ability to eliminate single-use plastics (SUPs) and shipping water, resulting in a significant 40% cost reduction. Essity’s Tork Carbon Neutral dispensers, featuring a line of 11 certified carbon-neutral dispensers, also contribute to sustainable practices. Additionally, SCJ PRO’s Proline WAVE 1-liter manual hand hygiene dispenser stands out for its construction using recovered coastal/ocean plastic waste.
Adding to the insightful discussions around sustainability, Laura Mahecha, Director in our Professional Cleaning Products sector, delivered two impactful presentations. One of her sessions focused on key trends shaping the professional cleaning market, including sustainability. Here are some of her key takeaways based on the insights from our recently completed studies, Janitorial and Housekeeping Cleaning Products USA and Professional Hand Care USA, with hundreds of end-use decision-makers:
- More than 20 states have laws banning (SUPs). One of the most ambitious is the California Circular Economy and Plastic Reduction Act, which seeks to significantly reduce the use of SUPs in packaging and products by 2030.
- While 38% of the end users that we surveyed view green cleaning products to be equally effective as traditional cleaning chemicals, and 30% of them view green cleaning products to be more effective than traditional products. Furthermore, 80% of them would be willing to pay more for green cleaning products, even up to 50% more than what they currently pay.
- Demand for environment-friendly products varies by vertical and market, with hospitality, healthcare, education, and foodservice having a strong interest in such products.
