The CEW Product Demonstration held on March 6, 2013, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City was the usual hurry and flurry of excitement. Here are some of the notable product trends Kline observed at the event:
Mousse-like dispersion
- Keratin Complex KeraWhip Hydrating Cream Conditioner – mousse-like container dispenses a foamy rinse-out conditioner.
- Kate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift Advanced Wrinkle Treatment – a long nozzle dispenses an airy blend of oxygen and other wrinkle-fighting ingredients.
Next generation devices
- Riiviva Microdermabrasion – reportedly the first at-home microdermabrasion device that uses medical grade, diamond-tip technology.
- Serious Skincare EGG Microcurrent + Facial Toning System – dual handheld units let you simultaneously work both sides of your face and neck, cutting your beauty regimen in half.
Gel inspiration
- Deborah Lippman Gel Lab Set – offers the soft cushiony look and extended wear of a gel manicure without UV lamp exposure.
- Sally Hansen Salon Instagel Strips – a two-step, chip-resistant gel manicure with no dry time and mirror shine that is said to last up to two weeks.
- Nail textures
- Kiss Nail Dress – decals that can be applied directly onto the nail or cut up and mixed and matched for a unique design (Kline’s own Carrie Mellage was wearing said product at the event and received compliments from virtually every table she visited!).
- Nails Inc Leather Effect Polish – dries down to a chic, leather look texture.
A fresh take on anti-aging
- Scalisi Skincare is said to trick the brain into thinking the wrinkle is a cut, therefore calling in collagen to “heal” the wrinkle.
- Marula Pure Marula Facial Oil – this African-sourced omega-rich oil is said to offer exceptional moisturizing and healing properties. Bonus: provides rural East African women with a sustainable source of income.
- Neydharting Moor – sourced from Austria’s Peat & Peat Water with botanicals, nutrients, and herbs.
Some like it hot (or not)
- Coolway Low Heat Styler works with hair’s water content to style hair using lower heat.
- Ojon Super Sleek Restorative Blowout Perfector – a heat-activated, leave-in treatment that helps prolong the effects of blow-outs and styling.
Let’s get digital
A number of products featured numerals as part of the product name or ingredient story, including:
- M-61, a green cosmeceutical line
- StriVectin-AR with NIA-114 + Retinol
- Anew Clinical Line Eraser Treatment with A-F33
Let’s move on already
The below are still valid and dominant trends in the market, but in our opinion no longer warrant a “best of” award given that they have now been present a few years, and many entries would fall into the “me-too” bucket (no offense to the entrants!):
- Hair oils
- BB creams
- Keratin-inspired products
CEW Members may now vote for their own favorites, and the winners will be announced on May 17, 2013, at the Beauty Insiders’ Choice Awards Luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
