NY NOW Spotlights New Candle Treasures for Holiday 2018

Home fragrance marketers, such as Gibson & Dehn, LAFCO, Nest, and Voluspa, showcase their latest creations at the NY NOW gift show this month as they gear up for the fall and holiday season. These high-end, luxury home fragrance players continue to see large crowds at their booths, attracting buyers with their unique product designs, sophisticated fragrances, and limited-edition collections.

Kline’s Home Fragrances: U.S. Market Analysis and Opportunities reveals that many of these luxury players record impressive gains year after year, and after observing their exhilarating new holiday collections, we expect these market movers to remain strong forces in the home fragrance space as we complete our research for 2018.

Some highlights of what we saw on the exhibition floor are summarized below.

Mini luxuries. Several marketers add tiny formats to their holiday lineups to offer lower-priced gift giving options to shoppers. Thymes introduces both a votive candle and petite reed diffuser to its Frasier Fir Gilded collection, LAFCO adds a small 2 oz. votive-size candle to its limited-edition holiday lineup, Voluspa debuts another Pedestal Candle Gift Set featuring cool-toned votive vessels, and Nest celebrates its 10th anniversary with a limited-edition Discovery Set that includes 10 mini votives. Several marketers even introduce petite sizes in their year-round lines; Capri Blue, for example, adds mini tins to its Signature collection, retailing for $9.00, and Root has new, long-lasting 20-hour votives in its Seeking Balance line.

Bold statements. Home fragrance brands continue to adorn their offerings with bold colors and designs to further encapsulate the holiday spirit. Capri Blue debuts its new Glam collection, featuring three candle sizes and fragrances in sparkling, glitter-textured vessels, while Paddywax’s new Glee collection embraces a frosted-glass facet, gold accents, and brightly colored vessels. Additionally, Nest displays its 10th anniversary 3-wick candles decorated with a metallic fern print, Thymes includes a pumpkin-shaped candle vessel in its fall Pumpkin collection, and Zodax exhibits tree and poinsettia-shaped porcelain diffusers.

Moody hues, moody notes. Several marketers embrace the season with a take on deep, moody color accents. Baobab debuts its new limited Stones candles collection, inspired by rocks and gemstones such as agate, lazuli, and marble. These elegant candles are poured into luxury-size glass vessels and feature colors that compliment both the gemstones as well as the fragrance notes, including leather, amber, and musk. Paddywax’s new Dwell collection features dark-colored, transparent glass in two candle sizes with copper and brass metal bands. The brand also introduces a new scent in its Glow collection –Incense & Smoke – poured in a deep colored, iridescent ceramic vessel.
