Breaking Beauty: The Elements of Cosmoprof North America

Two parts professional hair, nails, and tools, one part cosmetics and personal care, and a dash of wellness and spa, and you’ve got the formula for success at Cosmoprof North America 2014. While certainly less controversial than Walter White’s coveted recipe, some of this year’s exhibiters have cooked up concoctions featuring elements from the periodic table that are almost as fascinating.

First up is Cyclic. Touting itself as the “World’s Best Cleanser,” Cyclic’s line of skin cleansers and treatments feature nano silver technology with silver particles 1/20th the size of skin pores to remove harmful elements. Nano silver is said to have antibacterial properties.
Next is O2, a line of hair and scalp treatments offered by Boca Cosmetics Group’s Olez brand. Following the popularity of oxygen bars and later oxygenating skin care products, O2 is perhaps the first line of hair products we’ve seen featuring this vitalizing ingredient. O2 is said to release oxygen to remove toxins and impurities from the hair and scalp.
Appliance manufacturers are also getting in the periodic table game with products such as BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium.
Kline has noted a few other examples of this elemental trend outside of the show floor, including the Copper Chemist hair care line by Dr. Leonard and Oribe’s Gold Pomade and Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil.

Delectable edibles

On the other side of the spectrum, we saw a plethora of products based on edible ingredients. Israeli firm Shivat, which means “The Seven” in Hebrew, combines all natural ingredients and extracts of “the Seven Species of Fruit & Grain” in a line of skin cleansers and moisturizers so one can “Feel the holy land on your skin.” Dizao Organics offers a delicious line of organic lip balms in such variants as Pomegranate, Mango Ice Cream, and Fig.

Beauty’s Sweeter Side

Building on the edible trend, products featuring sugar were seen in abundance. Many sugar body scrubs were featured by skin and spa brands. New to the scene are sugar coated nail products such as Cuccio’s nail sugar, which offers a glittery and texturized finish. Sugar Lips was also found, which is a lip exfoliant and plumper to help users “discover sweetness.”
