Meat alternatives continue to gain popularity as the world deals with meat supply shortages caused by a growing population. Cultured meat, also known as lab-grown meat, is shaking up the food industry by offering a sustainable alternative to conventional meat.
Over the past few years, the market has been flooded with startups, growing from just four companies in 2016 to 60 in 2020. The number of investments made in the cultured meat segment has also increased dramatically, totaling $360 million in 2020, with a six-time increase over 2019.
