It is a $2.4 trillion industry, with specialty chemicals totaling about $500 billion. Specialty chemical industry is shifting to China, India and other low-cost Asian countries. China’s share of specialty chemicals industry has increased rapidly in the past decade and reached about $50 billion in 2008. India’s specialty chemicals industry is currently around $10 billion in sales but growing consumer demand for differentiated products is creating opportunities for various specialty chemical segments.
