Nut Oils, Vitamin C, and More at Top European Professional Beauty Trade Shows

March was a busy period for the professional beauty industry, with two of the largest professional beauty trade shows happening this month: Cosmoprof Bologna and Beauty/Top Hair International Dusseldorf.

Cosmoprof Bologna continues to be a major industry crossroad. Among the trends that caught our attention were product lines with vitamin C, such as Skeyndor’s Power C skin care line, as well as several new launches of BB creams from Algotherm, Levissime, and SKIN79.

The exhibitors list was quite impressive at Dusseldorf’s Beauty/Top Hair International. The show is geared primarily toward beauty professionals in Germany. A majority of manufacturers showcased colorful booths, with the most memorable being TIGI, Paul Mitchell, and Davines. Davines’ booth was transformed into a hair perfumery where visitors could receive a complimentary bottle of shampoo infused with plant and fruit extracts of their choice. At the Dusseldorf show,

Procter & Gamble debuted its Nioxin hair care line in the German market.

The trend of hair oils continued to reign in both events supported by a surge of new launches. Among the products showcased were Mythic Oil from L’Oréal Professionnel, Exquisite Oil from Matrix, Gloss Elixir from Coiffance Professionnel, and Luxe Oil from Wella System Professional. At Cosmoprof, products based on various nut oils were spotted, including those from Alter Ego and Coiffance Professionnel.

The growing trend of ammonia-free products was apparent in all major hair coloring launches. What was once a niche market, no/low ammonia lines have become mainstream with brands such as Keune, Redken, and Vitelity’s integrating the trend into their product portfolios. The natural trend also continues to permeate the professional scene, although new product launches have been fewer in number throughout 2012.

Clinical support towards product claims continues to be a growing trend among anti-aging products. We have also spotted several budding trends in both the skin and hair care segments, which are closer analyzed in our latest reports on the professional skin care, salon hair care, and professional nail care markets.
