Skin Care from Head to Toe: All at the 24th ISPA Conference & Expo Show

Skin care experts and enthusiasts converged at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas to attend The International Spa Association‘s annual conference last week. The show’s mantra focused on creativity in aspects of spa business, from ideation to the presentation of products.

The exhibition opening was celebrated with a vibrant introduction from the University of Las Vegas’ drum line. When the exhibit hall doors opened, there were brightly lit booths where spa directors and line representatives sampled the newest products, reviewed line sheets, and placed orders.

While many brands took the opportunity to introduce their new products at this show, it was the lines that were touting a luxury, more natural approach that seemed to stand out this year. Such was the case with emerginC and Luzern, as well as Naturopathica. On the other end of the spectrum, IS Clinical’s booth was well-attended as people gathered to sample the firm’s newest specialty treatment products Youth Complex, which shipped to accounts this month. The product retails for $150 and seems to compete in terms of benefits with the very successful TNS Essential Serum from SkinMedica.

The vast majority of attendees to this event were from destination spas and four-/five-star hotels. According to the temperature of the environment, 2014 spa revenues for these luxury venues are seeing a healthy gain versus the prior year.

Beauty device companies including Shaser, Clarisonic, and NuFace sparked the interest of many attendees who not only retail these products in their spas but also integrate services that use professional versions of devices. According to representatives from companies like Clarisonic, which was promoting its professional devices, these products create immense opportunities for both marketers, as well as spas. It’s a win-win situation as the spa-goer gets to have a treatment which utilizes the product in the service. Afterwards, one can opt to buy the products in the spa’s retail section!
