There are few businesses in any industry that will be sorry to see 2009 come to a close. Fortunately, we’re already seeing a few glimmers of hope on the 2010 horizon. The American Chemistry Council has predicted a 1.7% growth in overall U.S. chemical production in 2010, a welcome relief from the 7.2% decline for 2009.
Already a number of earnings reports have indicated that 2010 will be the Year of Recovery –Procter & Gamble and Estée Lauder have both posted better-than-expected quarterly results. As retailers gain penetration, it will provide a means of entry for marketers of personal care products, especially in countries like India where independent kirana shops currently rule the roost.

While the United States remains the dominant nation in the global beauty retailing equation with an 18.4% share, the emerging markets of the BRIC countries – Brazil, Russia, India, and China – continue to gain momentum posting double-digit gains, according to Kline’s Beauty Retailing 2008 – Global Series.
