Thoughts from the 2015 International Beauty Show

After months of cold weather and snow, March 9 was a stunning day to stroll through Manhattan and the joint International Beauty Show (IBS) and International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference (IECSC). Spring was in the air, along with a high level of enthusiasm at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center as vendors showcased their dizzying array of products and services. An abundance of energy in a carnival-like atmosphere, complete with goodie bags and a boardwalk photo booth, made for a fun day. With a keen eye on developing trends, Kline’s Donna Barson and Darlene Borsella prowled the aisles to keep abreast of the latest and greatest that the salon and spa industries have to offer.

Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Wipes

Claims Made by I&I Wipe Suppliers Extremely Important to Healthcare Sector

We are currently conducting structured surveys with end users of industrial and institutional cleaning wipes. Preliminary findings from the research show that claims made by manufacturers of wipes with regard to disinfecting and sanitizing are extremely important to the healthcare sector.

Survey respondents were asked to rate the importance of 20 various purchase factors when it comes to selecting cleaning wipes, including effectiveness, price, size, brand, texture, durability, scent, convenience, and dry time. Notable among respondents is that the time it takes a wipe to kill pathogens/germs, also known as “dwell time,” is considered very or extremely important among 100% of end users at nursing homes. All Roads Lead to Synthetics on the Global Lubricants Market

Low viscosity SAE 0W-XX passenger car motor oil (PCMO) accounted for under 5% of the total global PCMO demand in 2014. This grade is forecast to increase to over 7% by 2023, according to the recently released LubesNet Database.

Moreover, 5W-XX and 0W-XX combined account for about 40% of the total global PCMO market in 2014, according to the latest Global Lubricants: Market Analysis and Assessment report. The continuing global migration to lower viscosity grade PCMO will result in higher penetration of synthetics, semi-synthetics, higher revenues, and, conversely, longer oil drain intervals and suppressed overall PCMO growth.

The increasing demand for lower viscosity PCMO is driven by its ability to improve fuel economy; and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) recommending these oils to maximize performance and converting their factory and service fill requirements to these low viscosity grade products. In the past, 0Ws would only be found in high performance sports cars and ultra luxury vehicles. Today, a base model Toyota Corolla leaves the factory with 0W-20 in its crankcase. Additionally, the forward-thinking GF-6 product specification upgrade planned in the 2017/18 timeframe will create the technical demand for these lower viscosity grade products.Continue reading
