The industry has grown from niche to mainstream with better awareness and trust in product efficacy driven by six major trends including:
Sustainability and organic farming are fueling demand, especially in regions with strict regulations such as the EU and the United States. More countries are reducing synthetic chemical usage, and biopesticides offer a way to manage pests without causing long-term damage to soil and the environment. They also provide growers with an alternative to synthetic chemicals to which pests have developed resistance.
Expansion and mainstream adoption: In many countries, biopesticides are no longer niche products; they are increasingly integrated into conventional crop protection programs across major agricultural regions. This growth is driven by rising awareness among growers, improved product performance, and broader availability through established distribution channels.
Global trade has increased growers’ focus on export crops due to their higher value and profit potential. Export crops are subject to strict pesticide residue restrictions. Countries in the European Union (EU) are following the deadlines set by the Green Deal to reduce chemical pesticide usage by 50% by 2030. As a result, many countries have implemented their own Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), with EU funding providing incentives to promote organic agriculture and biological solutions. Countries outside the EU are also aligning pesticide policies with EU regulations and CAP frameworks.
Regulatory support and fast-track approvals, especially in countries like Brazil, are accelerating product registrations and market entry.
Strategic collaborations and acquisitions among agrochemical majors (Certis Belchim, Syngenta, UPL, Corteva) are expanding global reach and product portfolios, signaling strong industry commitment to biologicals.
Technical innovation is reshaping the sector, with advances in microbial strains, genetic engineering, and precision agriculture enhancing efficacy and reducing costs.
Despite this growth, there are still restraints and delays when it comes to the adoption of new technologies:
